Manfrotto 585 ModoSteady 3-in-1 Camera/Camcorder Stabilizer and Support System

The Modosteady 585 is mainly used as camcorder counterbalancing stabilizer. Initially, the counterbalancing stabilizer needs to be set in order to find the proper counterbalance position and weight, considering the weight and the centre of gravity of the camcorder. The 585 can be used also as a shoulder support. Its bi-injected foot can be used as shoulder pod, so that the Modosteady becomes an extension of the body. Finally, folding the extension arm, the bi-injected handle can be opened and Modosteady becomes a table tripod, useful also for still-pictures.

Love this gadget.
First of all, after I got this, I read a review that said that it was not capable of handlng a Sony HDR harddisk camcorder, I have a Sony HDR-XR200 120GB camcorder and I can vouch that this will work with this unit. It took me about 5 minutes to get the proper balance for the camcorder. The build is a little rough for the price but not that bad. You can really feel the plastic on this unit. I like the portability of this unit. Using it does takes practice as it is not heavy enough to stop centrifugal forces from acting on it.
I would have given it a 5-star except this was a replacement for my DIY stabilizer that I made with old PVC tubes which has the same performance as the modosteady. The only reason I bought the modosteady and not stuck with my DIY project was because I could not bring my DIY project on plane trips lest people think it was something else.
So the modosteady is great for helping stabilize small cameras but I don't think it can replace more expensive rigs. But for my purpose, it is sufficient.

Video Stabilizer
Good product, a little difficult to get use to, but once you do, it works well.
